What If Your Calling Doesn’t Feel Clear Yet?

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” — Psalm 119:105

We often expect calling to feel like a spotlight. Clear, complete, and impossible to miss.

But Scripture describes guidance differently. Not as a floodlight that reveals everything ahead, but as a lamp that shows just enough for the next step.

A lamp does not illuminate the entire journey. It simply makes the ground in front of you visible.

That can feel frustrating. Especially in a world that values clarity and long-term planning. We want to know where we are going, what we are meant to do, and how it will all unfold.

But God often leads in smaller increments.

One step. Then another.

Calling is not always about having a full picture. It is about learning to respond to what has already been revealed. Paying attention to what God is placing in front of you now, rather than waiting for complete certainty.

This requires trust. Not in your ability to figure everything out, but in God’s faithfulness to guide.

It also requires patience. The kind that allows space for growth, for mistakes, for learning how to discern His voice over time.

You are not behind because you do not have all the answers.

You are being formed in the process of following.

And sometimes, the most faithful thing you can do is take the next step that is already clear, even if the rest of the path is still hidden.
